When the weight of a plate is put on the tray, the sides stand up when carried. When there is no weight, the tray lays perfectly flat. They are made with Antimacrobial copper, so no worries about proliferation of viruses and bacteria. They are completely VOC free, so no nasty smells coming from your placesetting. They are easy to clean, simply wipe with a wet cloth.
